Under the category of web analytics is page tagging. Page tagging is another way of collecting data for your website. It is also known as web bugs. First, there were web counters. You may have seen these somewhere on your screen. It showed the number of people who visited your website. Gradually over time that has changed to page tagging.

Page tagging does involve the cookies and the rates that are part of the cookies. Some people want more specific information about the people who are visiting their website. That is where page tagging comes into play. It shows you what exactly your visitors to your website are looking at or accessing. It is more specific as to which pages they are accessing.
