Like any test, they can be wrong. Most of the time, they are correct, but occasionally there can be a false result. This doesn’t happen very often because it is usually a small percentage of the tests given that result in a false report. However, Edward’s Syndrome can be detected by the ultrasound.

When the picture is displayed on the screen, the nurse and doctor will look at the fetus in the womb and there are certain characteristics that they are looking for that have the same characteristics as Edward’s Syndrome. This may be that they have a small jaw and overlapping fingers. However, it can be confirmed with amniocentesis which is a fluid test. The fluid is extracted and then tested for different disorders.
