How long has Islamophobia existed?

Islamophobia has existed for years but really came alive after 9-11. Although people knew that Islamic people were sometimes terrorists, they never took it very seriously or personal in the United States until it happened in their own country. Oher nations had plenty of Islamophobia, however, but not the US. Terrorism was something that happened to other nations and was on television for a brief moment. Now that terrorism by way of Islamic force has effected the US, those who are Islamic but not terrorists are being blamed in some fashion as well.

People are fearful of those who dress and talk like the terrorists and feel helpless because they can't automatically tell who is and who isn't a threat. Knowledge and education about Islamic people is the key but it is not very common so the state of Islamophobia may continue until something is done to remedy the problem.
