There are many countries around the world that have an animal that represents that country. For instance, many people think of pandas when they think of China. This is mainly due to there being a lot of pandas in China. However, Singapore’s symbol is the lion. It became the national symbol of this country. The national symbol was accepted in the mid-1980s. One reason that the lion’s head became the symbol is through Singapore’s reputation. It became known as the Lion City.

The lion is known for being strong and brave. Therefore, Singapore wanted something to represent their strength and bravery. The lion can be seen on many different national emblems. As a matter of fact, the name “Singapura” means Lion City.
