Charles Dickens has many beloved works. However, his most famous work to date with over 200 million copies sold, is A Tale Of Two Cities. The number of copies sold is an estimated figure, as there is no way to completely know the exact amount. Whatever the case may be, this is a very impressive number. A Tale Of Two Cities became popular for a number of reasons. The storyline follows more than one character and gives the perspective of the rich and the poor alike. It also challenges readers to different ideas and complex issues for the day. For these facts alone, it was embraced by many, as it was seen to relate to a broader audience.

Rumor has it that even the queen of England enjoyed reading this book. It was originally published in small installments from April to November of 1859. From the first printing, it was an instant best seller. While it has been compiled into a complete work today, it has retained its setting as one of the top ten most popular books of all times.
