Schizophrenia is not common but it is more common than many tend to think that it is. About 1 percent of the population has it. In any one United States city, 1.7 percent of the population has it. A whopping 1.7 million will be diagnosed with Schizophrenia in this year alone. That is some staggering numbers. Awareness is highly lacking in the area of Schizophrenia.

But, Schizophrenia is not one of the most common mental illnesses. There are others, like depression, that affect many more people than Schizophrenia does. It is somewhat rare but given the numbers of those who are affected by it, you might be suprised. Schizophrenia is a disease that entails a mental disorder.

It cannot be helped. No one tries to get it nor does anyone deserve to get it. Those with Schizophrenia are not crazy either as some believe that they are. It is just the luck of the draw, who will get it and who will not. Many have it although it is not one of the most common mental illnesses, it is far more common that we wish it was.
