How many gallons of the liquid polymer should be mixed in a tank to produce 150 gallons of 0.6 percent polymer solution?
Liquid polymer is supplied to a water treatment plant as an eight percent solution.

11.25 gallons of 8% polymer
this problem could be a bit confusing because the 150 gallons has less than 1% polymer
Step 1: convert percentages to usable numbers0.6%=0.006 and 8%=0.08
Step 2: how much polymer is in the solution? 150 gal x 0.006 = 0.9 gallons of polymer in the solution (149.1 gal water, 0.9 gal of polymer)
Step 3: how much 8% solution would you need toequal 0.9 gallons of 100% polymer? 0.9 / 0.08 = 11.25 gallons of 8% polymer

(0.08) x gallons = (0.06) 150 gallons
0.08x = 9
x = 9/.08

x = 112.5 gallons

Not 11.2 gallons.
