The answer to this question is relative. It depends on the time of year, your physique, how prepared you are, and your location in Antarctica.

If you visit during summer, you can survive for a couple of days, but during winter, the climatic condition is not conducive for living. A person might survive a couple of hours in Antarctica.

Also, a person’s physique can play a role in survival. People with lots of body fats might survive a little longer than does with lesser body fat.

If you are on edge and not interior Antarctica, you will survive longer as the edges are often warmer in summer than the interior parts of Antarctica.

If you have special clothing, access to good facilities and all-round knowledge of Antarctica, you are likely to have a good stay on the continent.

Surviving in Antarctica depends on how prepared you are. In the real sense of it, no one really makes Antarctica his or her own permanent residence. There are several unfavorable factors that keep anybody away from there. These factors include the fact that the climatic condition is not favorable in the first instance.

In addition, there are really no plants humans can feed on in Antarctica, unlike many other parts of the world. Also, there are no industrial activities taking place there, nor a market or supermarket where you can get stuff to feed on. Can you see that live there is actually a really weird one?

However, some stay for quite some time in the Antarctica continent for a crucial purpose, though. The set of people that dominates this area the most is the scientist who is there on a mission. Most people just use some months, and they take their leave for their home country.

Some use months, some a year, and fewer about two years. Therefore, how much you are prepared for the Antarctica environment, and its condition depends on how long you will survive there.

Not long. Probably five minutes in the worst circumstances. You need special clothing, extensive knowledge, access to a well run accommodation facility, use of specialised transport manned by a professional. Otherwise, be a tourist and follow all advice.

That way you will survive to recount the tale of your journey to Antarctica. If you want a stimulus for survival read The Home of the Blizzard. Sir Douglas Mawson made a historic expedition to explore uncharted land in Antarctica.

He and his team endured winds with speeds of up to two hundred miles per hour, freezing temperatures and day-long blizzards. The book will tell you how they survived...if they all did.
