The Columbian Exchange greatly affected almost all regions on earth. It had both positive and negative effects. The positive effects includes the introduction of new technology and the introduction of the New World crops like potatoes, tomatoes, rice and corn to the Old World which resulted to the improvement of diets of the people.

The negative effects includes the introduction of infectious diseases by the Old World to the New World such as measles, Small pox and chicken pox which the New World had no immunity. Over half of the population in the new world was wiped out by these diseases most especially the small pox. It is stated that the Europe benefited more from the Exchange than the Americas.
