Most of the problems encountered in sustainable tourism are from third world countries and rural areas. This is because there is no enough guidance for rural communities to incorporate appropriate sustainable tourism development process. Some of these problems include:

Carbon and other toxic remissions
Health and wellness

Energy consumption and water waste control – the tourism sector tends to have a high energy consumption levels especially hotels.

Sociocultural needs of host community.

Other issues like e security, food safety, franchising and hotel network values, job creation and contribution to the local economy are problems faced by sustainable tourism.
