There are a lot of people who are well-regarded regarding their contribution to the solar system. One of those that are well known is William Lassell who is a British astronomer who discovered Triton. Triton was discovered on October 10, 1846.

This was the time when people started looking into Neptune more as it was just previously discovered. With careful prodding, Lassell was able to discover Triton which is considered to be the largest moon of Neptune. Lassell was asked by John Herschel to see if there are other moons that can be seen. Triton is one of the first moons that were seen. Other moons were soon discovered after.
