People started speaking English around 5th century AD. The old English also know as Anglo - Saxon was developed from some Germanic languages. The tribes that formed English are These the Angles, the Saxons and the Jutes. These tribes settled in Britain and influence the native Celtic language that was spoken in Britain. Over time, English language developed and was spoken in Britain.
