Mercury’s temperature varies which may seem unusual. It seems that a planet that is so close to the sun would have extremely hot temperatures all of the time. However, Mercury’s temperature changes a lot. The hottest temperature for Mercury is seven hundred degrees Kelvin. However, Venus actually has hotter temperatures on average than Mercury.

This may seem odd, but it doesn’t necessarily have to do with temperatures, but with the atmosphere. Mercury has no atmosphere to keep the heat close to the planet. Venus has a thick layer that holds the heat and hot temperature close to Venus without escaping. However, it is believed that Venus is similar to Earth, but we could not live on Venus since its surface of this planet is so hot.
