There are different kinds of motions. Four main types of motions include rotary or circulatory, linear, reciprocating and oscillating. Rotary or circulatory motions go around in a circle like a merry go round. The linear motion moves in a straight line like a car going straight down the road. Reciprocating motion moves forwards and backwards.

A saw is an example of reciprocating motion. Oscillating motion moves from side to side. A crank moves from side to side and this would be an example of oscillating motion. Whenever you see something moving, see how it moves.

Then you can detect what type of motion it is doing. Science brings forth many different types of motion. As you determine the motion of an object, you can predict which way the object will move.
