A stroke occurs when there is sudden damage to the brain due to a hemorrhage in the brain or blockage of an artery, and there are two types of stroke. The first is called an ischemic stroke, which is caused by a blood clot or plaque that blocks a blood vessel or an artery. It is the most common type of stroke. Most who suffer from a stroke have usually had an ischemic stroke.

A hemorrhagic stroke is triggered by a blood vessel that breaks and bleeds into the brain. Certain variables go together with a stroke. These would include high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, smoking, high cholesterol, and obesity. Having these comorbidities can leave a person at risk for having a stroke.
