Every trailing zero indicates a factor of 10 or 5 2. Since there are many more factors of 2 than 5s, you should count the number of factors of 5 there are in 100! Since it is one big product (100 99 98...), count: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 (5 5), 30, 35, 40, 45, 50 (55), 55, 60, 65, 70, 75 (55), 80, 85, 90, 95, 100 (55). The total number of 5s is 24.
