Crop breeding is a rapidly advancing science. Agricultural science can make use of genetic and biotechnological innovations to develop better crop varieties efficiently. Recent developments are helping breeders make the desired genetic changes with much greater precision. The mutation assisted plant breeding will play a role in the generation of designer crop varieties to address the warning of global climate change.

Crop breeding is a science of improving critical agricultural plants for the benefit of humankind. One of the responsibilities of agricultural science is to make crops more productive and nutritious. Mutations can be artificially encouraged by exposing plants to chemicals or radiation.
