IP in the term IP address stands for Internet Protocol Address. Each computer or electronic device has its own IP address so that it can be distinguished among other computers and electronic devices. The IP address is also used to communicate with other electronic devices.

When one device is needing to communicate or send information to another computer, it will use its IP address and the other device’s IP address. These IP addresses are connected to networks. They must be connected to these networks in order to work.

It is easy to identify an IP address because they include numbers organized into four sets of them plus dots in between each set. To get a better understanding of an IP address, think of it as the same as a cell phone number.
