When philosopher and scientist James Hutton first came up with the theory of uniformitarianism in 1795 in his book The Theory of Earth, it was not imediately accepted. However another scientist, Charles Lyell, turned things around. From 1830-1833 Lyell published three volumes of books on the topic of uniformitarainism under the title Principles of Geology.
