Natural disasters cannot be stopped but the way that people can become affected by hurricanes and other natural disasters can be controlled up to a certain point. The roofs and walls of houses should be checked. Some people even tie their roofs to heavy objects in order to prevent the roofs from flying off. Some of the possessions that will be left outside should be properly secured and even locked so they will not be damaged during the hurricane.

People should have enough food and water with them that will help them live comfortably for a few days or so. Get to know the parts of your home that may put you at risk during the storm.
