Chennai used to be known as Madras. This is located in Tamil Nadu and this is one of the places that a lot of people love to visit because of the various things that it can offer. This was renamed Chennai in 1996 because of the old records that were found by historians in the area. They saw that Madras was named Chennai back in the 1600s. They wanted to bring back that name.

There were also other places in India that went through some name changes that year. The establishments and structures of Chennai that has Madras on their names were also changed. For example, the University of Madras became the University of Chennai.
