The corium is not derived from the Ectoderm, and it is a layer of the skin that is in between the tissues and epidermis. It consists of three primary cells, which are macrophages, adipocytes, and fibroblasts. The word Ectoderm comes from the Greek word ektos meaning outside, and derma means skin.
In order words, Ectoderm is one of the three layers in the embryo; the other two are the mesoderm, which is the middle layer, and the endoderm, which is the proximal layer. The organs derived from the Ectoderm are the epidermis skin cells, neurons of brain, pigment cells.
The dermis of the skin, also identified as corium, is not derived from the ectoderm. It is a layer of the skin between the epidermis and the tissues. The dermis is connected to the epidermis through the basement membrane. There are many layers to the dermis of the skin.
It is composed of three major types of cells, which include fibroblasts, macrophages, and adipocytes. It is also composed of collagen, elastin, and extrafibrillar matrix. The extrafibrillar form consists of a gel-like substance complete with proteins that the dermis is held within the skin matrix.
