You may be one of those people who like salad and you are naturally curious about where the word originated. The salad comes from the French word “Salade.” The meaning of these two words is the same which means different ingredients that are placed together as a side dish of another type of food.

The French word may have come from the word “Salata” which is a Latin word which means salty. Back in the 14th century, people did not use the word salad yet. What they used was sallet.

The invention of the salad may be different depending on where you will look. There are different variations of it that are available right now. You are bound to find one that you will like.

The word “salad” originated from several different languages and places. These places and languages include France or French, Latin, and English. In Latin, salata means salty. The reason salty and salad are associated with each other is because the vegetables usually are salted because of seasoning. Salads date back as far as the ancient history times. The people from Rome and Greece during ancient times claimed they ate salads.

A book written in 1699 was about salads. One letter was written about thirty years before the book was written requesting different vegetables that could be put into a salad. Salt is the primary word associated with salad according to the origin of the word “salad.” This has to due with the dressing more than anything else.
