Sadly, this is cited in five African countries where slaves are used for domestic service, debt bondage, military slavery, and so on. Mauritania, Sudan, Libya, South Africa and the Sinai Peninsula.

There is international concern about all of this, especially because of the extremely cruel treatment of captured Africans, but current leadership and the presence of civil unrest make it difficult for other countries or organisations to intervene. The upshot is thousands of attempted emigrations with consequent loss of life.
