The lightest halogen is fluorine. Halogens are elements that belong to group 17 of the periodic table. These elements include fluorine, chlorine, bromine, iodine, and astatine. They all fall into this group because each of them has seven valence electrons in its outermost shells. And since they belong to the same group, they have so many properties in common.

However, fluorine, the first element of the halogen group, is the lightest of them all. It is important to note that most of the properties of the halogens decrease down the group. For instance, the second lightest element of the halogen group is chlorine, and the trend continues till you get to astatine.

Also, fluorine is the most reactive halogen. The reason is that the valence electrons in the outermost shell of fluorine are closer to the nucleus than in other halogens. That way, fluorine can easily attract electrons from other elements. This property also decreases than the group, making astatine to be the least reactive element of the group.

Fluorine is the answer to this question. There are a lot of people who have heard about the halogen Fluorine but they do not know what this is. This element is known to be highly toxic. You will know what this is based on its appearance which is usually pale yellow. This is an electronegative element which also means that it can be very reactive.

It has been tested to react with the different elements and in almost all cases, there were reactions that took place. The only elements that it will not react are neon and helium. Some similarities of fluorine to fluoride have made people concerned about the safety and use of fluoride. This can only become dangerous in very large quantities.
