A guitar is a string instrument that can be played by one hand at the fretboard and the other for strumming or plucking the strings. This instrument is a chordophone that is defined as having a flat, wooden soundboard, incurved sides, a flat back, and a long-fretted neck.

Though it was not called and had the basic parts of the guitars we are using today, this chordophone has been played since the 12th century. But it was Gaetano Vinaccia who discovered or invented the first six-stringed guitar which is the basis of a modern acoustic guitar. The design of a modern acoustic guitar was created by Antonio Torres Jurado.

The forum of the classic guitar is credited to Spanish guitar maker Antonio Torres 1850. He increased the size of the guitar body, altered its proportions, and invented the top bracing pattern. His design significantly improved the volume, tone, and projection of the instrument. George Beauchamp developed the first successful magnetic pickup for a guitar and incorporated into the 1931 Ro-Pat-In.

He invented the first electrically amplified guitar. He was the general manager of the National Guitar Corporation. Antonio de Torres was the most important Spanish guitar maker of the 19th century. It was with his designs that the first recognizably modern classic guitars are to be seen. Most acoustic guitars in use today are derivatives of his designs.
