The reason why treatment for mental illness is so expensive is because many hospitals, therapists, group therapies are not covered by health insurance. People pay a high price out of pocket to be treated of their illness, when they are in dire need of help, their insurance may cover little or nothing. Whether inpatient or outpatient, treatments for mental health is expensive.

Another reason is that free mental health resources are not readily available so people have to make do with the options available which are very expensive.

There are a lot of people with mental illness who never wished that they would have the illness that they have. They have the will to live and in order to continue with their lives but therapy to help them heal just cost a large amount of money. One counseling session can cost from $50 - $200 depending on the therapist that will be chosen. Not all people have this amount, especially for regular sessions.

Some insurance policies actually cover mental therapy but there are also some who don’t. It is best to check this first so you will know your possible options. The charge is usually high because therapists can also be very stressed because of the situations that they hear from people. They absorb the negative energy that their patients provide.
