After Mercury’s death, band members played tribute concerts in honor of Freddie Mercury following his tragic death. May and Taylor reunited and returned to touring. They went traveling on the road with Paul Rodgers, who was the founder and former lead singer of Free and Bad Company.

John Deacon did not participate in the reunion. The first Queen and Paul Rodgers album, titled, the Cosmos Rocks was released in Europe in September 2008. Following the release, the bands went on tour throughout Europe. They eventually split up in 2009.

When Freddie died, the members of Queen still played together, but they did not write any new music. In April 1992, the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert was held at London's Wembley Stadium. Many famous bands and singers were performing various Queen songs, along with the three other members. It was the most significant rock star benefit concert.

In 1997, Queen returned to the studio to record a song dedicated to Mercury. In 1998, the two of them appeared at Luciano Pavarotti's benefit concert. In 2003, May and Taylor performed at a concert hosted by Nelson Mandela at Green Point Stadium. At the end of 2004, they toured with Paul Rogers. Between 2005 and 2006, Queen and Paul Rogers embarked on a world tour. They produced another album and then officially parted ways without animosity in May 2009.
