Tophat were most popular in the 18th and the 19th century, since then, it has been in decline. Everyone wore a hat at that time and there were different hats for different occasions.

The tophat evolved over time and was used as part of formal and business wears. It was mostly used by elites in the society. Men began to wear non top hat in public and reserved tophat for special occasions. The tophat was also expensive because it was made from beaver fur and expensive silk. Gradually, the tophat became out of fashion for the younger generations.

Top hats were all the rage in the 1800s to the early 1900s. Almost every person wore the hat back in the day. However, over time, different kinds of hats were introduced, while top hats were restricted to the black tie attire. Slowly, the top hats became too expensive. Being made of beaver fur or expensive silk, it wasn’t something everyone could afford.

Slowly, only the elite people of the city were wearing these hats. Finally, over time, the baseball hat was popularized. After that the trend was limited to formals and slowly vanished from the picture entirely, being regarded too vintage for the taste.
