There are probably a lot under the ocean, but the ones we know about are beautiful. One of the largest and most well-known is the East African Rift. This is located in Ethiopia at one end and in Mozambique at the other end. Other countries included in this rift are Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Malawi, Zambia, and Tanzania.

Other rift valleys known to us include the Baikal Rift Zone (southeastern Russia under Baikal Lake), the Dead Sea (this lies in a rift valley), and the Pingvallavatn lake in Iceland.

These last two are often called rift lakes, and there are plenty of rift lakes as well. Baikal is known to be the one with the most freshwater, but Pingvallavatn is the largest naturally occurring lake.

There are rift valleys in East Africa, the Baikal Rift Valley, the West Antarctic Rift, and the Rio Grande Rift . The first is part of the Great Rift Valley system.

There are also the East Rift Valley, Taiwan and Thingvellir National Park located in Iceland. They don't seem to occur in or around Europe.
