As a current college student, I can tell you that geography is not a dead subject. My college offers fifteen courses on geography. When you include courses offered in geology (or the science of the earth’s structure, history, etc.), there are a total of fifty-two courses, since geology and geography can influence and affect each other.

We still have an earth to live on. Therefore, there will always be people interested in the way the earth interacts with what is living on it, as the previous answer has stated. As long as there are people interested in this subject, it will not die. After all, as long as there is someone to learn about it, they will find the information they want.

Geography will never be a dead subject while we have an Earth to live upon, for there will always be those who are curious enough about their environment to want to understand and describe it in detail. Because Geography encompasses land, phenomena and peoples, there is surely enough to spark the curiosity of most people.

However, it is possible that it is a subject that has not attracted the most effective teachers, those who can inspire students with a love of their subject. Once similarities and differences between habitats and habits are highlighted, such as Kalahari Bushmen versus city bankers, popular interest can be raised. The same is true about strange and dramatic features: Niagara Falls, for instance. Interest is evidenced by the thousands who visit there every month of the year.
