Companies such as Procter & Gamble, Camel, and Chevy were perhaps among the first companies that managed to recover after the recession of 2008. It has been approximated by empirical studies that about 17% of the companies were not able to survive the recession.

They either had to become private, got acquired, or had went totally bankrupt. At the same time, the recovery process of companies was rather slow and even after three years of recession, the companies were not able to regain their rate of sales as they were before the recession. Only about 9% of the companies managed to do better than before after their recovery from the recession phase.
