If you really want to isolate yourself from everybody and everything, find a way to go to Point Nemo. Point Nemo is a nickname for a spot, officially known as the “oceanic pole of inaccessibility”. This spot is located in the Pacific Ocean 2,688 kilometers from the nearest land. This spot was nicknamed after Captain Nemo, the fictional character in Jules Verne’s Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea”.
The spot was discovered in 1992 by a survey engineer using specialized computer software. There are many interesting facts about Point Nemo but one I found particularly fascinating is that astronauts in the International Space Station orbiting the earth about 258 miles away are often the closest humans to Point Nemo.
