First of, the 3 Japanese writing systems are Hiragana, Katakana and kanji. All of these languages were influenced by the Chinese alphabets. The Japanese use the Chinese kanji. Due to the complexity of the Chinese kanji the people developed simpler forms of the Chinese kanji, which is known as the Hiragana writing. Hiragana writing is cursive and simpler than the Chinese alphabets. Hiragana has 46 characters.

Katakana is a simpler form of the Kanji, it is mostly used for translating Chinese to Japanese, it is also use for translating other foreign languages to Japanese. It is used in technical documents. Katakana are characterized by short, straight strokes and sharp corners. Katakana has 48 characters.

Japanese has 3 different writing systems and they all carry out different purposes.

The reason that the Japanese language only uses three scripts is that there is a lot of mixing of the scripts which is able to produce the large amount of characters which in turn has been able to make Japanese definitely one of the hardest languages to ever learn. It is believed that there are over 50,000 total charachters in the Japanese language. It is said that graduating Japanese high school students are required to know and master roughly 2,200 of them. The three major Japanese scripts are kanji, hiragana, and katakana.

Katakana is one that is used in translating foreign languages. Kanji is noted as being the most used because is used in nouns and other important words. Hiragana is used as the script for adjectives and verbs. It all adds up to one of the most elegant written languages that have ever been on the planet. It is very obvious to see that these scripts were borrowed and influenced from the Chinese.
