Nanotechnology’s use isn’t really limited. It’s a field that is developing just like space travel. It will take some time for nanotechnology to become the basis of all industrial applications.

The biggest limitation for nanotech is its cost. New tech is always expensive and nanotechnology is a relatively new concept for the world. The simplest devices made with nanotechnology are on an average 5 times more expensive than if they were made with widely-used technology. Another limitation is the fact that most nanotech research is privatized and patented which limits its release to the public industries which, in turn, increases its cost.

Nanotechnology is still being researched as of today, and the most widely used nanotech devices are transistors in Integrated Circuits(the smallest transistor to date is 10nm). UHD or Ultra High Definition in TV’s and Monitors is a fairly new tech that is slowly kicking off. It uses extremely small sized LED’s and is classified as nanotech. Most nanotechnology is still stuck in what the industry calls “first generation” which uses fairly large materials with respect to theoretical nanotech. Examples of “”first generation” nanotechnology would be TiO2 in cosmetics, silver in bandages, gold used in medicines etc.

Nanotechnology has many uses in various scientific fields. It can be used in medicine to deliver treatment to specified cells. It can be used in the environmental sciences to detect small amounts of chemical contamination. It can even be used in fabrics to reduce body odor.

Nanotechnology is very expensive however, due to the amount of research needed to develop these products. The cost of nanotechnology is the biggest limitation.
