Eumaeus is the friend of Odysseus. He was also a swineherd. He specifically waited for Odysseus after the Trojan war while he was in Ithaca. He was surrounded by his huge dogs and he was also with the pigs that he was caring for. The story of Eumaeus is rather entertaining.

He was actually a son of a king but he was stolen from his home and was raised to become one of the pirates. It was Odysseus’ father that was able to get Eumaeus to Ithaca and this is where Eumaeus finally settled. He was kind enough to provide Odysseus with food and shelter to make him more comfortable during his stay in his place.
