Janet Jackson's 1986 album Control was produced by songwriters and record producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. They have written over 40 top ten hits in the US and over 30 top ten hits in the UK. The two producers originally met in Minnesota and formed a band called Flyte Tyme, later changed to The Time.

Jam and Lewis required Jackson to record the entire album at their studio in Minneapolis, called Flyte Tyme Studios/Records, against her father Joseph Jackson's wishes. The two producers were the primary instrumentalists for the album and also sang backup vocals. The album became Janet Jackson's breakthrough commercial success.
