The scientific name of corn is “Zea mays”. Corn belongs to the:
Kingdom: Plantae, Division: Magnoliophyta, Class: Liliopsida, Order: Poales, Family: Poaceae, Genus: Zea and the Specie: Z. mays.

Corn is also known as maize, it is a cereal grain that has become a staple in many parts of the world. There are six major type of corn, they include: dent corn, pod corn, popcorn, flint corn, sweet corn and flour corn. Corn is consumed directly by humans, used for corn ethanol, corn syrup, animal feed and many other maize products.

Matz thank you so much for the answer, I like to come here and discover new things. Now I get why in Italian they say "mais" for corn!
