Figs
Yogurt
Aged cheese

Phenelzine sulfate (Nardil) is a monoamine oxidase inhibitor. The client should avoid taking in foods that are high in tyramine. Use of these foods could trigger a potentially fatal hypertensive crisis. Foods to avoid include yogurt, aged cheeses, smoked or processed meats, red wines, and fruits such as avocados, raisins, or figs. Test-Taking Strategy: Recall that phenelzine sulfate is a monoamine oxidase inhibitor and that foods high in tyramine needed to be avoided. Next, from the food items listed in the question, identify the food that contains tyramine. Review the food items to avoid with monoamine oxidase inhibitors if you had difficulty with this question
