There are a number of different techniques you can use to manipulate people. It’s hard to say which techniques are the most efficient because it generally depends on the person who is the target of your manipulation. For example, one technique called guilt-baiting, may be very successful on one person and not another because different people will react in different ways.

Other ways to manipulate people involve the silent treatment. With this technique, the manipulator gains a power advantage and uses it as leverage over another person, creating doubt and uncertainty. Perhaps the most common technique is called “home court advantage”. A manipulate person will insist on interacting with you in a place where they will feel ownership and control and they know you may feel less comfortable.

Dr. Ron Kessler is a Harvard researcher who was co-director of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) mental health research study initiative. This initiative looked at mental disorders and treatments in 28 countries around the world.

As to why the United States is such a hotspot for mental diseases, Dr. Kessler has said…“that by and large people in less-developed countries are less depressed: After all, he says, when you’re literally trying to survive, who has time for depression? Americans, on the other hand, many of whom lead relatively comfortable lives, blow other nations away in the depression factor, leading some to suggest that depression is a ‘luxury disorder.’ ”

The amygdala is the area of the brain that facilitates emotional responses, such as pleasure and fear. In people with depression, the amygdala becomes enlarged and more active as a result of constant exposure to high levels of cortisol. An enlarged and hyperactive amygdala, along with abnormal activity in other parts of the brain, can result in disturbances in sleep and activity patterns.

It can cause the body to release variable amounts of hormones and other chemicals in the body, leading to further complications. Depression has the potential to damage the brain. The person can have difficulties remembering and concentrating. It can also lead to a poor attitude, negative thinking and behavior.

If you mean humanity as an aspect of a person's character, then there is nothing wrong and everything right. To be humane suggests that a person will treat others fairly, with due sympathy and understanding. If you mean human beings, as opposed to other species, then clearly we possess unattractive, hostile and fearsome potentialities as well as good ones and those negative behaviours can cause some of the ills in the world.

Greed, for instance, can determine whether actions like use of harmful chemicals are used rather than harmless operations if there is good money to be made from the choice. Ambition can determine what a politician says to gain popularity irrespective of his true beliefs or knowledge of possibly harmful outcomes from his words.

Wow! Where do I start? In the vast field of psychological research I can only pick out a few facts, pretty well at random.1. If you keep your goals private you're more likely to achieve them than if you make them public. This is because announcing them gives a subliminal false sense of completing them. 2. 90% of people will fake laugh when they don't understand what someone said to them. We just don't want to lose face. 3. Staying quiet doesn't mean you've got nothing to say.

It means you don't want or fear people's reactions to hearing your thoughts. 4. What most people assume are the happiest events, graduating, getting married, a new job, often lead to depression. This is because we can build up massive expectations of key events. When reality does not meet expectation, we can plummet down. Does the expression 'Is this it?' ring a bell? That's a taster. For more, start a B.A. in Psychology.
