Prepositional Phrase Questions and Answers (Q&A)

The phrase “by studying every night” is actually a prepositional phrase. This is because by is a preposition. One of the requirements of a prepositional phrase is that it should start with a preposition. The word night is a common noun which is another requirement in prepositional phrases. Ivan is the subject as he is the one who is being talked about.

The verb is improved as this is related to the object which is his memory. It is his memory that he was able to improve because he made it a point to study every night. There are a lot of sentences that are further understood due to the addition of prepositional phrases.

One of the parts of speech is preposition. The others are noun, verb, adjective, adverb, conjunction and interjection. In a sentence, there are certain things that it must have. This is the subject and predicate. These things must be included in a sentence in order to be a complete sentence. The subject is the noun and the predicate is the verb.

The other parts of speech are not needed, but they could be included to add more description to it. One of these things is the prepositional phrase. A prepositional phrase begins with a preposition which could be “in,” “at,” or “of,” to name a few. It ends with a noun. Even though a sentence may contain the word “to” that doesn’t mean it is a prepositional phrase. In this case, none of the sentences contain a prepositional phrase.
