No one remains unaffected by depression as it affects people of every age group. Adults, children, teenagers, even older ones can get depressed. One study shows that almost one out of four young people experience depression before reaching the age of 19.

However, childhood depression can be harmful to the health of the children if not diagnosed properly on time. Today’s parents should be conscious and aware of emotional warning signs from their kids. If you are seeing these early signs in your child, you should immediately contact a therapist.

Now the question arises how can you find out whether your child is in depression or not? The signs and symptoms of this mental disorder may vary from one child to other. In addition to this, young children are less likely to express what they are feeling from inside than teenagers or adults.

My husband made some comforting remarks like ‘you are strong,’ ‘sweetie, you are able to do beyond your imagination,’ and many more. My husband is such a great motivator that he made some nice remarks that built into me confidence while I was in the hospital having our baby. Some of the remarks which I cannot easily forget because he still places emphasis on them till now, even as he has been saying since we were engaged in courtship are ‘sweetheart, you are so good that you do not know how to operate in your best’, and ‘you are able.’

He told me while on my way to the labor room that I am so strong that my strength cannot get exhausted. What I noticed about these words is that they are not really meant to flatter, but to show he believed in me and what I can do. Sincerely, his remarks are great assets to me.

Parenting is the process of raising, promoting and supporting the physical, social, emotional and intellectual development of a child. It includes all the responsibilities and activities that are involved in bringing up a child from infancy up to adulthood and this is not exclusive to the biological relationship.

In most cases, the caregiver in parenting is the biological parents of the child. Other members of the family – older siblings, legal guardian, aunt, grand parents or uncle can also be the caregiver.

The government and society also play a role in child rearing, mostly for abandoned and orphaned kids.

Yes, it is important that parents educate their children on sex. Parents should be a child’s first source of information about sex. At an early age, especially before or during puberty, parents should encourage early, honest and open communication about sex.

Parents should make sure that they are getting the right information; let your children also open up to you on what they known about sex, correct their misconception on the subject. Teach them early, our society is a type that highlights sex in everything, so teach them.

If parents don’t educate their children about sex, they will find out from their peers, the internet or from the TV and it is possible that they may be educated wrongly.

Single parenting is not an easy task; here are certain things you should know that can make parenting a bit easier for you.

Show love to your child: praise your child, show him or her unconditional love, set out time to play and listen to your child.

Take care of yourself: this is one aspect where many single parents are failing; many are notoriously self-sacrificing for their children. As you watch out for your child always, remember to watch out for yourself. Eat healthy, get quality sleep and include physical activity in your routine.

Your child needs attention not gadgets: don’t worry if you cannot get the latest game or iPod for your child, what your child needs the most is you, instead of making forgettable purchases, make memories with them through spending quality time with them.

Remember, there are no perfect families, ask for help when you need it, you are enough for your kids and you are much stronger than you know.

To me, I believe the best parenting style is Authoritative parenting style. This style of parenting allows parents to set clear rules and boundaries but also explain the reason behind such rules. Parents are also willing to listen to the children’s feedback, objections and questions to the rules set.

Authoritative parents include their children in decision making; they focus on positive reinforcement when certain expectations are met. This type of parenting style helps children to become self-confident and independent because they have been raised to help set their own rules and expectations.

First, it is important to know what parenting means. Parenting is the process of promoting and supporting the physical, emotional, intellectual and social development of a child from infancy even up to adulthood.

Good parenting is a process or a series of actions where by parents teach their kids the moral in what is right and what is wrong, setting limits and discipline that will help the child to become someone with good physical, emotional, intellectual and social wellbeing.

Bad parenting is a process or a series of actions where by parents’ actions harm the child’s demeanour and psychology. The collective actions of the parent have a negative effect on the child.

Parenting is considered the toughest job on earth because of many reasons. There is no training, no user manual for parenting. The needs of your children change as they grow older, you get no additional training, you will be challenged in ways you never knew, it’s an everyday task that you come into unprepared and you never get a break from.

Parenting comes with a lot of physical and emotional strains. Every child is different and needs to be treated in a unique manner; this makes it difficult for there to be a collective way (step by step or guaranteed manual) on how to raise a child. Being a parent means leading, teaching, guiding and inspiring your children.

Yes, tell your kids that you smoke and drink because if you don’t, when they see you drinking and smoking, they will ask and the conversation will be different then.

Take the conversation one step at a time, do not bombard them with so much information at once, go slowly and be thoughtful when you are talking to your kids about it. If your kids are old enough to known about drinking and smoking, then they might be shocked to know that their parent is involved in such activities.

You need to have a solid explanation for your actions. Let them know the benefits and the disadvantages that come with your action.

Is will make it easy for them to ask your questions when they are unclear on certain things related to drinking and smoking.

Bad parenting has many negative effects in the life of the child. It can damage the life of a child. Bad parenting actions like low levels of emotional and physical support are known to affect the psychology of a child which can lead to depression in the life of that child.

Bad parenting also leads to the development of anti-social behaviours in the child, the child does not consider if his or her actions affect others, this kind of behaviour can lead to substance abuse, crime, mental health problems and poor health.

Many of these children become aggressive, have poor resilience lack empathy and they find it very difficult to handle and maintain relationships.
