But in 1971, Memorial Day was moved to the last Monday in May due to the Uniform Monday Holiday Act and probably because the two holidays are not far from each other and if allowed to be observed separately will amount to an unreasonable decision. However, a lot of people are already advocating for the day to be returned to May 30 as it was before so as to regain its significance and purpose.
