Food Questions and Answers (Q&A)

Anchovies and sardines seem to have a bad negative connotation to their names. Whenever people hear those words, they think very badly of them and that they taste bad. However, they are considered a delicacy in some areas. Both are small fish found in water. Anchovies are often found on pizzas and sardines are known to be found in a can.

Anchovies are fish that swim in the oceans, whereas sardines are found in smaller bodies of water. Sardines are dark in color, and anchovies are silver in color. There are several subcategories of anchovies, but there is one sardine with many different types of fish included in that category. Both are rich in nutrients when eaten. They eat the same food too.

The Greeks and Romans during ancient Greek and Roman times ate what they planted, hunted and got from the ocean. For them, they fished and had seafood, olives, and fruits like apples, plums, cherries and pears. They also had milk and honey for sweetness. The biggest thing that Greeks ate was bread. They are also known for drinking wine.

In Rome, they are similar to the Greeks by what they ate. Most of the meat came from the seafood in the ocean. They also ate the crops that were grown. However, a delicacy that only the very wealthy people in Rome ate was tongue. The tongue came from birds or flamingoes. They also drank plenty of wine just like the Greeks.

Cabbage and lettuce are vegetables with a lot of nutritional benefits. However, there are differences between cabbage and lettuce. The two leafy vegetables are not from the same family. Cabbage belongs to the cruciferae family and it can also be traced to Brassicaceae family, while lettuce is from Asteraceae family. Cabbage has a short stem and the leaves around it are naturally arranged to form what looks like a bulb. Like most vegetables, cabbage is also green in color except for some cases.

Lettuce also has a short stem with leaves around and flowers that can be said to be a differentiating factor between lettuce and cabbage. And lettuce is best used before it starts showing its flowers. Another thing about lettuce is that, as it grows up, its length also increases, unlike cabbage with a short stem. The nutritional benefits of lettuce include, vitamin A and folic acid, while cabbage gives indol-3-carbinol.

Udon and Soba are two special types of noodles in Japan. These noodles are very delicious when properly cooked. Udon and Soba are an important part of Japanese dishes. However, there are some differences between Udon and Soba. The differences are mostly in the areas of how they look i.e size, color. Udon and Soba differ in their colors. Soba is generally grey in color, while Udon is white in color.

Udon is quite thick when compared with Soba probably because of how they are made. Soba is made from a particular type of wheat called buckwheat, while Udon is made from white flour. The different types of flour used in making the two are what is causing the range of differences between the two. Researches have shown that, Udon noodles are traditional noodles of Buddhist priests while Soba noodles are very common among Tokyo people. However, Soba noodles are widely served more than Udon noodles.

The amount of protein intake one needs to have per day depends on many things. In fact, the recommended one for men is a bit higher when compared to what is recommended for women. On average, a man needs 56 grams of protein per day. On the other hand, the average woman needs about 46 grams of protein per day. The above is just for men and women who will not be engaging themselves in any strenuous activity throughout the day.

This shows that a man who will be engaging in some activities will need more than the recommended 56 grams of protein per day. The same thing is applicable to women. Protein intake also depends on the current state of the individual's health. People with certain diseases may not need to take too much protein per day. The amount of protein intake also depends on muscle mass and age.

We used to have a tomato plant but that was not very productive. Now, there are wild berries which grow beside the poison ivy. I have never tried to eat them, even though I do love raspberries. Wild raspberries are packed with sustenance, and they are energizing to eat as well.

They are an abundant source of vitamins c and k and they also contain a fair amount of fiber and calcium. You have to be careful not to pick poisonous berries and eat them so when in doubt, don't eat wild raspberries.

Today, there are many different kinds of artificial sweeteners, but the one that seemed to start it all is aspartame. It began in the 1965 and it is still being used today. As an artificial sweetener, it is considered to be a sugar substitute because it did not contain sugar and was therefore better for you.

However, over time people have experienced its side effects. People usually don’t call it aspartame today which is why it is not really known anymore. It used to be called Nutrasweet. People used aspartame in foods and drinks in order to make them sweet. However, it is probably healthier to stay away from them and use regular sugar in moderate quantities instead of aspartame or any of the others out on the market.
