Evolution Questions and Answers (Q&A)

The two scientists that gave theories on evolution are Darwin and Lamarck. The following explains the difference in their theories: Lamarck's theory of evolution was simply about how organisms (Plants and Animals) experience alterations during their lifetime and then pass these modifications across to their offspring. Take, for example, Lamarck believes that as the first generation giraffe tried to reach leaves on high trees, the neck grew longer and this modification was passed down to the second generation giraffe, and subsequent changes were passed down to further generations—this resulted into the giraffe's neck is long.

In contrast, Darwin's theory of evolution, which is also known as natural selection, was based on the fact that organisms possessed distinct variations that make each organism slightly different from one another, and these variations led to some being more likely to survive terrible environmental conditions. It is from this idea that we get the phrase 'survival of the fittest.' Darwin's theory became accepted because it had more evidence that supported it, unlike Lamarck's theory.

The correct answer is option D
Coevolution is the kind of evolution described above.
Coevolution is a kind of evolution that describes the case where two or more species reciprocally affect each other’s evolution. Coevolution is common among species that have close ecological interactions among themselves.

Example of such is that of the bees’ structures that evolved to help pollinate flowers and structures that evolved in flowers that make it easy for certain species of bees to collect nectar.

Macroevolution, convergent evolution and divergent evolution do not describe the kind of evolution in the text above.

Alleles are basically the individual forms of a gene from your mother and father. You have two strands of DNA. One from your mother and the other from your father. Both have corresponding genes at corresponding lengths along the strands. However, each gene has two information sources, the mother strand and the father strand.

When a population is non-randomly mated, chances are that homozygotes will increase and these will be over represented in the population. This is because, homozygotes will tend to group together and have offspring with a similar gene sequence, with every generation having fewer and fewer heterozygotes.

Adaptation means that something is able to come up with solutions in order to fit in with its present environment. This means that the person or the living thing was able to develop some behaviors that will allow it to thrive in the environment that it is in right now. Evolution is different because it means that there are changes that have occurred.

The living thing has been modified in order to fit in perfectly with its surroundings. For example, human beings are said to have evolved from monkeys, but the change did not happen overnight. It took different generations until the typical man has started to thrive on earth. People and other living things can adapt easily by following customs and traditions and by going with the flow.

Pea crabs are small pea-size crustaceans that hang on to the larger oysters and mussels as a form of stabilization selection. You see, alone they may not be able to survive. However, with a strong host, these lucky crabs have a chance of continuing their life and producing offspring. It becomes a kind of natural selection where the crabs that are able to hang on best to a host survives and gets to reproduce.

A survival of the fittest with an evolutionary pattern. It is explanatory that the oyster and mussels provide the pea crabs with protection as well as food that nourishes them as they grow stronger on the coat of an oyster.

The scientific name for a segmented worm is annelid. This is actually a phylum of worms - all segmented or ringed on their bodies. It includes animals like leeches, ringworms, and earthworms. Each segmented part contains the same organs. These could be a heart, lungs, stomach, etc. Anything that the worms might need to live and get from place to place. Speaking of locomotion, they use parapodia.

The parapodia are basically two little hairs - one on each side of the body - that are used by the worms to propel itself to the location it wants to go. Annelids often reporduce sexually, but some can produce assexually. Those that have been studied, however, favor sexual reproduction. They often make little nests or something of the kind for the their eggs.

The correct answer to this question is A, Hydrogen. Fusion is a nuclear process. Energy is made during this process, but the smashing together of atoms. Fusion uses stars, such as the sun, to produce heat and light. On Earth, fusion occurs by combining tritium and deuterium, which are two isotopes of hydrogen.

Hydrogen is an element and is the lightest of them all. It is made of just one proton and one electron. Two nuclei must be brought close together to activate for fusion to occur. With this activation, fusion occurs typically at very high temperatures and a high density.
