Initially, Black Friday denoted the stock market crash in the 1800s when two men attempted to correct the distortion by submerging the market with gold, causing a massive crash that became known as Black Friday. Black Friday is a day that is rooted in rich history.

Black Friday has been known to refer to big sales that took place after Thanksgiving in America in Philadelphia when police used the term out of aggravation concerning the volume of shoppers that created mayhem on that day.

To the best of my knowledge, the summer solstice, or perhaps the estival solstice, which is also known as the midsummer, occurs when one of the earth’s poles is tilted towards the sun. It happens about twice in a year and once in each of the hemispheres. From an article I once read, the summer solstice occurs when the sun is at its highest or perhaps the day with the longest period of daylight.

Within either the northern or the southern hemisphere, there’s steady and continuous daylight around the summer solstice, as such, the axial earth tilt towards the sun at about 23.44 degrees; in the same light, the sun’s declination from the celestial equator is about 23.44 degrees. The summer solstice, in most cases, occurs during summer, most times around June in the northern hemisphere and December in the southern hemisphere, depending on the shift in the year’s calendar.

The summer solstice, which falls on the 21st of June in most cases, is widely known as the first day of summer; its meaning also interprets “sun standing still.” The summer solstice has spiritual implications, according to some writers, while to some others, it’s just the celebration of the sun. It’s believed by some that the summer solstice signifies a period of reflection and a pure celebration of nature, i.e., the ushering of a new season of summer.

To some others, it signifies the beginning of an inner spiritual journey and at the same time, a symbol of patience when everything comes to a standstill. Scientifically speaking, the significance of the summer solstice is a marker that indicates the beginning of a new season/era. During this period, the sunlight is at its highest due to the interaction between either the northern or southern hemisphere with the sun.

I believe the name ‘midsummer’ developed etymologically from the fact that it is the mid-way between planting and harvesting season in most parts of the world. Well, it is astronomically referred to as midsummer, the day with the highest sunlight and longest period of daylight. This period of the longer day commences in the autumn, and the longest day comes in the middle of the equinoxes. The weather, in the beginning, gets so hot for a couple of months after the summer solstice occurs.

Meteorologically, it is the beginning of summer. Historically speaking, the day is the midpoint of a growing season and also the halfway between a planting and harvesting season. It should be noted that the meteorological summer commences around June 1 and comes to an end by the 31st of august. Meanwhile, astronomically, summer solstice commences by the 21st of June and comes to an end by the 23rd of September.

The summer solstice is experienced all over the world when the sun seems to be at a standstill. The summer solstice in June (which is the exact time) occurs due to the sun’s ray that is directly overhead the tropic of cancer. It occurs in regions of the northern and southern hemispheres. Although many consider June 21 as the date while others consider June 22, it can happen between 20th to 22nd June.

Although one might think that the summer in the northern hemisphere is at the closest to the sun when in the real sense, it is the opposite. In this time of the year, the earth is actually farthest from the sun. As a matter of fact, the earth will be on aphelion for a couple of weeks after June’s solstice.

Around June, varying time zones on the northern hemisphere welcome the emergence of summer as the sun reaches its peak in the northernmost position in the sky. Northern European countries such as Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland, celebrate the emergence of the summer solstice by then. The southern hemisphere, on the other hand, celebrates the emergence of the summer solstice around December.

Countries such as; Brazil, South Africa, Australia, etc. all experience summer solstice. Basically, the summer solstice celebration is done in certain countries that fall on the Northern and southern hemisphere of the globe. Mode of celebration differs from country to country and culture to culture; there is no universally accepted celebration mechanism.

So far, the longest day of this year occurred on the 21st of June 2019. On this day, the sun brightened the sky longer than any other day. It signifies the emergence of the summer era. This year’s summer solstice arrived around 11:54 Eastern. On this day, the sun directs its rays as far as it can get through the north as such appearing over the tropic of cancer at 23.5 degrees north.

As a result of this occurrence, the sun takes its highest and longest path through the sky. It is essential to know that as the solstice remains the longest day of the year, we do not see our earliest sunset or sunrise on the same day, June 21. Scientifically, as we move closer to the North Pole, daylight hours increase, but the sun closer than ever in the sky. Basically, the summer solstice is the longest day of this year.

Yes, people celebrate summer solstice in Europe. Some of the top celebration locations include Stonehenge – Wiltshire, England, a monument that was built around 3,000 BC to 2000BC that most possibly tracks the sun’s movement. The secret Solstice festival in Reykjavik, Iceland to counts. The secret festival spans for about three full days. The Midsummer in Stockholm, Sweden, is also known as St.

John’s day is one of the most important celebrations of the year. The festival is deeply rooted in a pagan ritual, and it is usually celebrated on the eve of the summer solstice. I cannot exhaust all locations where summer solstice is celebrated in Europe, but basically, it is celebrated in all of Europe as a mark to usher in the commencement and end of summer and winter, respectively.
