Fixed cost and variable cost are two different things though they are talking about the cost of an element or elements. As their names imply, it is very easy to differentiate the two costs from their names. Fixed cost refers to cost of elements which does not change even when there are changes in the level of activities. Fixed costs are costs that remain as they are, regardless of any increase in the products produced.


Examples are salary, Tax, Rent and insurance. While variable costs are costs that tend to change when there is a change in the level of activities or when there are changes in the products produced. This means, variable costs of a company change when the output of the company decreases or increases. Another difference is that, fixed costs are incurred, regardless of whether products are produced or not, while variable costs are costs incurred only when units are produced.

Nauru is an island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. It is closest to the continent of Australia. Unlike most other islands, Nauru is made up of phosphate. This mineral can be extracted and it is easily extracted on this island. For years, Nauru was extracted for its phosphate. Many citizens living on the island were residing comfortably due to the export of this product.

However, after years of this, the consistent extraction of the material has caused damage to the land and environment. Now, there is no more on the phosphate that can be knowingly extracted. There are a couple of surrounding islands that also have phosphate and they are Banaba and Kribati. Most of the land on the Nauru Island is damaged from the mining.

An element is unique in that it has only one kind. Oxygen is an element. It has only one type of atom. Atoms are the smallest part of an element. it takes millions of atoms to make up even a very small element of half a millimeter in size.


Elements are part of the composition of a substance and they contain protons, electrons, and neutrons within themselves. There ae some elements that have atoms that refuse to join with one another...such as helium. Different characteristics are defined when elements possess atoms that join or don't join.

There are 118 elements in a periodic table. The very first one is hydrogen. The last one is oganesson, The four which have been the most recently discovered are 113, 115, 117, and 118. As elements are discovered, they are added to the table once it has been confirmed by scientists that they are indeed legitimate.

The official doccumenting service that enlists all of the 118 elements and confrims the legitimacy of new ones is called the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry. The periodic table is the official recording of all elements that are in existance. Some of the elements are natural but some are not. It is projected that there will continue to be more elements added as man is always inventing new elements.

Yes, there are two types of pure substances, compounds and elements. Elements consist of a single atom whereas compounds are made of molecules. If a substance consists of only one element or one compound, it is a pure substance. If it consists of two compounds or elements that have been mixed together in solution, than it is a mixture. Salt water is a solution containing dissolved salt (NaCl) and water. Since it consists of two compounds, it is a mixture and not a pure substance. Air is also a mixture since it is a mixture of nitrogen, oxygen, and other trace gases in Earth’s atmosphere. An atmosphere consisting of 100% oxygen would represent a pure substance.


Pure substances have to be separated using complex physical methods. One method is through evaporation. If a solid at room temperature is mixed with water, for example, the water can be evaporated leaving behind the solid. This is how salt rock deposits, such as gypsum, are formed.
