The trick is figuring out if the reaction is endothermic or exothermic. If you have a + kj value, then your reaction should be endothermic, and the energy is on the reactant side because it is being absorbed. If you have a - kj value, then your reaction is exothermic.

Potassium is a group 1 element which means it has one cation. However, some elements from numerous different ions.

Example of such is phosphorus, it can exist as -3 or -4. Since we have 3 potassium which forms a total of 3 positive charges. At times, it is connected to four different groups of atoms. It is always important to know the different chemical bonds because it will help you understand the reaction that the atoms do from time to time.

If substances keep their individual properties, then they are not combining. All the other example answer do involve elements or ingredients mixing together to form an altered substance. Whether this is in chemistry or cooking (a form of chemistry) or painting, the individual parts are distinct from the combined result. A compound by definition is a substance that has been produced by combining two or more other substances.
