Approximately one in 3.600 to 4.000 males is affected by the full mutation of the FMR1 gene, and about one in 468 males has the permutation form of the FMR1 gene. About one in 151 females in the general population has the permutation, while about one in 4.000 to 6.000 females is affected by the full mutation.

Currently, there is no cure for the Fragile X syndrome, nor are there any definitive treatments other than helping the individual develop to their maximal potential.
