[edit section]
Synopsis of the Microsoft 70-620 Exam

The newest client certification exam, the Microsoft 70-620 Windows Vista certification exam, covers the latest and greatest Microsoft client operating system offering – Windows Vista. The Microsoft 70-620 exam is the Vista equivalent of the older 70-210/70-270 exams that covered Windows 2000 and XP, respectively. It is a relatively easy exam and a great way to obtain your MCP (Microsoft Certified Professional) status. It is also part of the “core” track of the MCSE/MCSA certifications in the sense that you must take at least one client OS exam in order to obtain the certifications. So, why not take the most recent and relevant exam available from Microsoft?

Difficulty and Scope of the Microsoft 70-620 Exam

Although the Microsoft 70-620 exam does cover new content in Windows Vista, many of the basic requirements and objectives remain the same as those from the 70-270. Questions that cover features such as automated recovery, backup and restore, users and groups, system logs, and many other such Windows-specific features have carried over from the Windows XP certifications. However, there are some new topics covered in the Microsoft 70-620 Windows Vista Exam, including:

  • Windows Aero (the new Vista interface)
  • Windows Defender (the new Vista security suite)
  • Windows Sidebar (another new Vista feature, are you catching the drift?)
  • Vista Install Process

Most of the new content is really secondary and so candidates with a strong background in Windows XP client support will probably face little difficulty acing the Microsoft 70-620 exam. In general, this is an easier exam than most of the other MCSE/MCSA certification exams and is also a great way to get started on the MCSE track as you will gain experience in taking other Microsoft certification exams.

When and why should I take the Microsoft 70-620 Exam?

In general, most candidates take this exam before attempting other MCSE exams. This is because the Microsoft 70-260 exam is perhaps easier than the others and also due to the fact that the other Microsoft certification exams can build on some of the core content in the client exams – in other words, it helps to know something about clients before you begin to deal with the world of servers. As for why to take the exam, it is a great exam to study for even if you are not going to be a candidate for MCSE certification as it is a relatively easier exam for you to earn your MCP. Even if you are not attempting to earn the MCP, it is a good certification to obtain if you serve in any sort of help desk role as the skills you will learn in configuring and troubleshooting Vista are essential.

Ok, I want to take the Microsoft 70-620 Windows Vista Exam. Now what?

First, you will need to make sure you can allocate enough time to study for the exam – look at your schedule for the next few months, as a good certification exam preparation usually takes around one to two months, and see if you have time to study on a normal basis for the Microsoft 70-620 exam. Once you have determined that you have enough time to pursue the certification you will need to set and register for a testing date. (You can read more about testing and registration, along with vouchers, here.) Finally, you will need to execute your study process using ProProfs free resources, such as flash cards, quizzes, and cram sheets, to better prepare for the exam. We wish you the best of luck!
